Paralegal Certificate Cost At A Glance
- ABA-approved certificates that don't require a bachelor's degree run from $966 to $34,500 in tuition where the school publishes a price for a stated group of students, with a median of $5,472.
- Approved certificates for degree holders run from $2,307 to $26,103, with a median of $4,728.
- At the public colleges ranked here, the median in-state charge is $183 a credit before fees, and the median certificate profiled here is 30 semester credits.
- Residency moves the price most at public colleges. At private schools, how the certificate is priced does.
- Fees, books and certification exam fees come on top. NALA's CP exam alone is $325 to $375 plus testing.
There's no single price for a paralegal certificate, because the name covers different products: a community college's credit certificate, a university's certificate for degree holders, and an extension division's certificate run outside the degree system. This page prices each from what ABA-approved programs publish for the certificate itself, and adds the federal charges for the public colleges ranked on this site. Where a school publishes a rate rather than a total, the tuition shown is that rate times the published number of credits or courses, and the table says so.
Certificates That Do Not Require A Bachelor's Degree
The median tuition across 89 approved certificates is $5,472, and the 25 lowest are below. Where the page states whom the rate is for, tuition runs from $966 at Skyline College to $34,500 at National University. 72 of them are priced by the credit or unit, and where the rate is a district or state resident's rate, the table says so: nonresidents pay more. Pasadena City College, Santa Ana College and National University count general education toward the 60 credits their certificates require, so their figures are the price of every required credit at the school's rate, not of the legal courses alone.
Each bar is drawn to the highest tuition in this list, so a bar twice as long is a tuition twice as high.
Tuition as each school publishes it for the certificate, read between October 1, 2026 and October 8, 2026; where it gives a rate, the total is the rate times the published credits or courses. Fees and books are not included.
The other 64 are on the ABA-approved program list, by state.
What The Federal Data Shows
Federal data covers every public college ranked here, whether or not it publishes a price for the certificate. The median in-state charge is $183 a credit before fees, and the median in-state tuition and fees for a full-time year at ranked certificate programs is $5,155. For the approved certificates that can be finished online, the median out-of-state figure for a year is $10,130. These are figures for a full-time year, not for a certificate, which can be shorter or longer than a year.
Certificates For Degree Holders
If you already hold a bachelor's degree, the approved certificates built for you are often priced on their own, sometimes by the course. The median tuition across 43 programs is $4,728, and the 25 lowest are below. Where the page states whom the rate is for, tuition runs from $2,307 at Florida State College at Jacksonville to $26,103 at Daemen University. The post-baccalaureate certificate page compares them on length, format and entry as well.

What Comes On Top Of Tuition
Colleges add registration, technology and course fees, and the tuition above excludes them, as it excludes books. Certification is optional, and no state requires it, but it has its own price:
| Credential | Awarded by | Exam fee | To renew |
|---|---|---|---|
| Certified Paralegal (CP) | NALA | $325 for NALA members and $375 for non-members, plus Prometric testing fees ($63 for the Knowledge Exam and $53 for the Skills Exam at a test center; $58 for the Knowledge Exam taken remotely). | Every five years, with 50 hours of continuing legal education, at least 5 of them in ethics. |
| CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP) | NFPA | $300 for NFPA members and $325 for non-members. | Every two years, with 8 hours of continuing legal education, including one hour of ethics and one of diversity, equity and inclusion. |
| PACE Registered Paralegal (RP) | NFPA | $325 for NFPA members and $350 for non-members. | Every two years, with 12 hours of continuing legal education, including one hour of ethics and one of diversity, equity and inclusion. |
California adds a cost of its own: every working paralegal there must complete four hours of continuing legal education in ethics and four in general or specialized law every two years. Every national certification, compared.
